Every once in a while there is something that touches the heart and the soul. Today as I viewed the disasters left behind by the tornadoes throughout the Midwest, I started to ponder on why there was such devastation without a higher loss of life and I remembered the man-made disasters of 9-11 that will forever be etched in my mind. I was working as a Teacher's Aide at the local elementary that morning and watched in horror as the planes hit the Towers and then as the towers came down. I have been inside those buildings, in fact, I worked in New York and went there many times as part of my job. There should have been more people there. Angels were there and I believe that angels were and are there for those in the Midwest who have suffered so much in the past few years with the amazing numbers of hurricanes and tornadoes.
Angels were there to motivate people to go to places they would not normally go. When the tornado warnings go off, most people head for the buildings that are supposed to be build to withstand them. Apparently in Henrieville there was no where that they could. If we had to live through such a night, how many of us would be able to face what they saw as the early morning light revealed just how bad the damage was? I know I would be in shock after losing everything and having nothing left but the clothes on my back. What is even sadder is that when I went to work today I seemed to be the only one who knew about the hurricanes! Are we so turned off to what is going on around us that we live in our own little bubble and refuse to get out of it? I hope not. I do know that as long as there are angels amongst us, miracles will continue to happen and our prayers will be answered. Maybe not when we want them to be or in the manner we want, but they will be answered. Just listen - can you hear the angels?

Life after college

Today is the first day of my new blogging site! I had one a long time ago before life happened and I went back to school. I recently graduated from college with my Bachelor of IT degree with a concentration in computer forensics. Do I have a job in that field? No. And the way they hire, I will be needing more certifications to even qualify for a job. I put my resume out on Careers.com and continue to get offers but I have found a job with Xerox at their Verizon Wireless call center. Is this my perfect job? no but it is a job and in today's economy, having a job is a big step forward! There are a lot of people out there looking for work and I, fortunately, found one the first week after finishing classes. My job is one that has a lot of potential for upwards mobility which is one of the reasons I hope I am retained after my 90 days of training is up! After a year, they offer tuition reimbursement and I will be going for more certifications in IT so that I can get a better position at Xerox in the future.
What does this have to do with quilting? Absolutely nothing. But in order to quilt, create and purchase more items to feed my creative monster, I must make money! I love computers and I love fabrics! If I could find a way to make money combining both of them together, then I would love it! Any suggestions?
